Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC)
Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC): On March 27, 2020, the president signed into law the CARES act, which includes the Relief for Workers Affected by the Coronavirus Act. The CARES Act provides for a temporary federal program called Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC) that provides up to 13 weeks of benefits to be paid to claimants who have exhausted their regular Unemployment Insurance (UI) benefits. PEUC is payable effective March 29, 2020 through December 31, 2020. Claimants whose benefit year ended on or after July 1, 2019 may be eligible to file for PEUC provided their regular UI benefits have exhausted and/or expired. Eligible claimants will be notified when they can begin filing for PEUC benefits.
